Posted: November 26th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Press release | No Comments »

The Independent Commission on Banking held its fifth meeting on Thursday 25th November. The Commission reviewed progress on its evidence gathering and discussed some of the key issues within its remit in more depth, including the separation of retail and investment banking, improving the loss absorbing capacity of the banking system, and competition in retail banking.

The Commission noted that it had received over 1200 pages of evidence in response to its Issues Paper from over 130 different individuals and organisations. The formal response period closed on 15th November but the Commission agreed that it would ask the secretariat to continue to review any further responses received before Christmas. The Commission noted that over 100 meetings had been held with third parties. In addition, the two public events held so far (attended by around 300 people in total in Leeds and Edinburgh) had also provided a diverse set of views on possible reform options.
